Overview

Trip planners usually handle either logistics or group coordination, rarely both. Onyva brings itineraries, route optimization, real-time group chat, and shared expenses into one place for hiking, camping, and other group trips. It was a team capstone: a Next.js frontend and a NestJS backend on Prisma and PostgreSQL, deployed with Docker and GitHub Actions.

What I built

  • Built the trip-planning chatbot with the Vercel AI SDK and Gemini, including a tool that creates a trip from the conversation.
  • Embedded trip data and ranked trips by similarity to the chat input to recommend relevant trips.
  • Persisted chat sessions and messages, and built trip invitations.
  • Added OpenTelemetry tracing to the frontend and split production and development databases.
